Most evenings, I used to watch my electricity meter climb after dinner, especially when the heat pump, dishwasher, and lights were running together. Since installing my home solar battery system, that routine has changed more than I expected. I now charge during sunny midday hours and use stored power through the expensive evening peak period.
My setup uses rooftop solar panels connected to a LiFePO4 battery bank, and I originally searched for an amazon lifepo4 battery because I wanted something affordable and reasonably simple to monitor. On a normal sunny day, I see the state of charge reach around 95 percent by late afternoon, then fall to roughly 25 or 30 percent by breakfast. My monthly bill has dropped from about $180 in summer to $75, although rates and weather vary. I do not treat that as a perfect promise; it is simply what my house has averaged over several months.
I did have one troubleshooting moment. After a weekend, the battery stopped discharging at night. The app showed a reserve setting I had accidentally raised while experimenting with backup mode. Lowering that reserve restored operation immediately. Now I check the battery temperature and inverter status first. The system is not magic, but it has made my monthly costs predictable.
