Solution Solar Battery
8 months ago I installed a home solar battery after getting tired of watching my electricity bill jump every evening. My setup is fairly modest: six rooftop panels, a hybrid inverter, and a 10kWh battery built around 280ah lifepo4 cells. It is not a showroom-sized system, but it has made a noticeable difference in normal family life.
The biggest win is peak-hour bill savings. Before the battery, our cooking, laundry, and heat-pump use landed between 5:00pm and 9:00pm, when the utility rate was highest. Now the panels charge the battery during the afternoon, and the inverter carries most of that evening load. On sunny days, I often reach bedtime with 35–45% charge remaining. In the first full month, our bill dropped by about $72, and the following month was $64, even though we used the air conditioner more.
What I appreciate most is that the savings feel automatic. I set the battery to prioritize self-consumption and reserve 25% for outages. There is no daily button pressing or timing the washing machine around sunlight. The monitoring app shows solar production, battery state of charge, and grid import clearly enough that I can spot unusual behavior without becoming obsessed.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. One morning, the battery showed 0% even though the app reported plenty of solar the day before. I found the inverter had switched to backup reserve mode after a brief grid flicker. After rebooting the inverter and raising the reserve setting, charging resumed normally. The manufacturer support team confirmed no cell problem, just a conservative protection setting.
Since then, the system has been quiet and dependable. I check before storms, but I no longer think about prices.
