2 winters ago, I installed a 10kWh solar battery beside my garage, paired with a 220v inverter and rooftop panels. Before that, my evening electricity use was the part that annoyed me most. The dishwasher, heat pump, and induction cooker all started after work, exactly when grid rates climbed. I wanted to see whether energy storage would make a noticeable difference, rather than simply add another gadget to the wall.

On installation day, the electrician mounted the battery in a dry utility area and connected it to my existing solar system. The setup was less dramatic than I expected. The app found the battery quickly, and I set it to charge from excess solar during daylight and discharge between 4:00 and 9:00 p.m. On sunny days, it usually reaches full charge before lunch. I now watch the battery percentage casually, not obsessively.

The biggest change is visible on my bill. Before installation, my high-rate evening usage averaged about 8–10 kWh daily. Now, the solar battery supplies most of that window, and my monthly bill has fallen by roughly 30–40 percent, depending on weather. A cloudy week still hurts, but the battery does not pretend to create energy; it simply shifts my solar power to a more expensive time. That honesty is useful when estimating payback.

I did have one small scare. During a firmware update, the inverter stopped discharging for an evening. The app showed “standby,” although the battery was at 78%. I turned off automatic control, restarted the system, and waited ten minutes. It resumed normally the next day. I later learned the update had temporarily changed the operating schedule. Since then, I check the app after updates instead of assuming everything is fine now.
