8 p.m. used to be the expensive part of my evening. My rooftop panels usually finish producing around 5:30, but the battery stores the surplus instead of sending it straight back to the grid. After sunset, I run the refrigerator, Wi-Fi equipment, lights, and heat-pump water heater from stored energy. The biggest difference shows up between 4 and 9 p.m., when my utility uses peak-hour rates.
Before the battery, I often saw evening usage push my daily total above 20 kWh, especially after cooking dinner and charging devices. Now the app shows discharge covering most of that window, and my average daily bill has dropped from roughly $6.20 to $3.70, depending on weather. That is not a dramatic overnight miracle, but it adds up to about $75 per month for us, which is more useful than the marketing estimates.
On cloudy days, solar battery reserve runs lower, so I keep a sensible backup setting instead of draining it completely. I also noticed that the battery works hardest when I shift laundry and dishwashing into late morning, when panels are active. That small habit reduced grid imports further without making our routine feel restrictive.
My only real hiccup came during the first month, when the inverter stopped discharging at 6:40 p.m. even though the app showed plenty charge. I checked the obvious things—breaker, battery temperature, and the time-of-use schedule—but nothing looked wrong. After restarting the inverter, I found that a firmware update had reset the peak-rate hours to factory defaults. Restoring my utility’s schedule fixed it immediately, and support confirmed the settings were saved.
Since then, I check the battery state of charge once a week, not obsessively. I like the quiet part most: no generator noise, no daily maintenance, and predictable solar backup when the grid flickers. That has earned my trust.
