8 months ago I added a 10 kWh LiFePO4 solar battery to my rooftop system, and the biggest difference has been after-dinner electricity use. Before the installation, my inverter pulled from the grid almost every evening. Now the battery charges from the panels around lunchtime and carries our refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and heat-pump circulation pump through the expensive hours.
On my utility plan, peak rates run from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., so I watched the first full month closely. My daily grid consumption dropped from roughly 18 kWh to 6 or 7 kWh during those hours. The bill fell by about 35%, which works out to around $48 monthly where I live. It is not a dramatic zero-bill setup, but the evening savings are predictable and visible.
The only hiccup came during a cloudy week when the battery stopped discharging at 42%. I initially blamed the solar panels, but the monitoring app showed a BMS temperature warning. One temperature sensor connection had worked loose inside the enclosure. I shut down the inverter, tightened the connector, and restarted everything after ten minutes. Since then, it has been stable, even on damp mornings.
During the repair I also learned not to obsess over battery capacity numbers. The system is happiest when I leave a reserve of 20%, rather than draining it completely every night. I built my pack from professionally matched cells; the listing mentioned “18650 3500mah,” but I treated that as a cell specification, not a promise of whole-system performance. The hybrid inverter and BMS matter just as much, especially for safe charging and accurate state-of-charge readings.
After eight months, I still check the app each morning. The battery has made solar power feel usable after sunset, not merely impressive on sunny days. That consistency is why I would install it again.
