Solution Solar Battery
2 months ago, I installed a 12kw growatt inverter compatible LiFePO4 Battery in my garage, mainly to stop sending cheap daytime solar power back to the grid and buying it back expensively after dinner. I already had rooftop panels, but my evening electricity bill was the part that annoyed me most. The battery was the first upgrade that felt immediately useful rather than merely interesting.
Installation was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the battery beside the inverter, ran the communication cable, and configured the energy management settings so the battery charged from solar first. I chose a 20 percent minimum state of charge because I wanted backup during outages without sacrificing too much usable capacity. On the first sunny day, the battery reached full charge shortly after lunch. Watching the power-flow screen change from solar-to-home to solar-to-battery was oddly satisfying. There were no mysterious apps or constant adjustments; after the initial setup, I mostly left it alone.
Where I noticed the difference was between 5:00 p.m. and bedtime. Before storage, my cooking, dishwasher, heat-pump water heater, and evening lighting all pulled from the grid during expensive peak hours. Now the battery covers nearly all of that load. On a normal weekday, it discharges from around 80% to roughly 30% by midnight. My utility bill has fallen by about $45–$60 per month, depending on weather and how much air conditioning we use. That is not a miracle, but it is predictable, and predictable savings are what I wanted. The biggest benefit comes on cloudy days, when I can still use stored solar instead of immediately buying peak electricity. I also appreciate that LiFePO4 chemistry feels less fussy than the old lead-acid backup battery I had years ago.
One morning the app showed a communication warning; rebooting the inverter cleared it before breakfast.
