Solution Solar Battery
Charging my rc lifepo4 battery after sunset has become the most noticeable change in our electricity routine. Before installing solar battery storage, I watched the utility meter climb whenever we cooked dinner, ran the dishwasher, or turned on the heat pump.
My setup is a modest rooftop solar system connected to a 10kWh wall-mounted LiFePO4 battery. It is not a huge off-grid arrangement, and I still buy power from the grid, but the battery now handles most of our evening demand. I programmed it to charge from excess solar during the day and discharge during the utility’s peak period. That simple schedule has made the biggest difference to my monthly bill.
On sunny weekdays, the battery is usually near full by late afternoon. After dinner, it runs the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi equipment, television and sometimes the heat pump until bedtime. I can see the power flow in the monitoring app, changing from solar to battery instead of grid. My bills have dropped by roughly $35–$50 a month, depending on weather and how much we use the heat pump. It is not a dramatic overnight transformation, but the savings are consistent, and the peak-hour usage line on my bill is now much smaller.
I had a troubleshooting moment in the first week. The battery stopped discharging at 5% though the app showed capacity remaining. The installer said my reserve was too high. Lowering it fixed the problem. I appreciated the pause; it made me inspect settings instead of assuming something was broken.
Now I check the state of charge once or twice. The rc lifepo4 battery stays quiet, and I notice no heat or noise. For me, solar energy storage makes evenings cheaper without changing life.
