Solution Solar Inverter
Over the past six months, my solar battery has changed how I use electricity more than the panels themselves. My rooftop array is modest, and before adding storage I still bought power from the grid every evening.
The biggest difference appears during our utility’s peak-hour window, when rates jump from 18¢ to 34¢ per kWh. My 10-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery usually reaches full charge by early afternoon. I have programmed the hybrid inverter to hold enough energy for cooking and lights, then discharge between 4 and 9 p.m. On an ordinary weekday, it supplies roughly 6 kWh, saving about a dollar a day. That sounds small, but last month the battery cut my bill by $31, despite running the dishwasher and heat pump more often.
Setup was less intimidating than expected. The installer mounted the battery beside the garage and added a separate backup panel for the refrigerator, router, and a few outlets. I appreciate that the main house does not pretend the whole home is backed up; during a short outage, only those circuits stay live.
One evening I noticed the battery stopped discharging at 6:30, even though the app showed plenty remaining. I checked the settings and found backup reserve had accidentally been raised to 60% after a firmware update. Lowering it to 20% restored normal operation, and support confirmed the update had reset the value.
I had briefly considered a cheaper inverter advertised with a modified sine wave, but I chose a pure sine wave model instead. That extra cost feels worthwhile: my refrigerator is quiet, the induction hob behaves normally, and there is no annoying buzzing from chargers.
I am not energy independent, especially through cloudy winter days. Still, savings make the battery worthwhile.
