I installed a home solar battery last spring, mainly because our evening electricity rates had become painful. My solar panels produced plenty during the day, but we were still buying power when cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and charging devices after sunset. The battery changed that routine more than I expected.
The biggest difference showed up on our first full month of use. I programmed the energy storage system to charge from solar during the afternoon and discharge during the utility’s peak period. By around 4 p.m., the battery usually had enough stored energy to carry us through dinner and most of the evening.
