inverter module

Nearly six months ago, I added a 10 kWh solar battery to my home system, mainly to stop buying expensive electricity in the evening. My rooftop panels already covered most daytime use, but the hours after sunset were still painful, especially when cooking, running the dishwasher, and charging my electric car.

The difference showed up on the first full billing cycle. Before installing storage, my peak-hour electricity use averaged about 11 kWh per day. Now the battery usually carries the house from around 4 p.m. until bedtime. On sunny days, the solar panels refill it by early afternoon, and I often finish the day with only a small amount of grid power used. My monthly bill has dropped by roughly 35 to 45 percent, depending on the weather. That saving matters more to me than the app’s colorful graphs, although I do enjoy checking them.

The most useful setting has been a reserve level of 20 percent. I originally set it at 10 percent, but one cloudy morning the battery emptied sooner than expected and I had to buy power during the expensive evening period. Raising the reserve gives me a little breathing room without sacrificing much daily savings.

I also had one minor scare during the first month. The monitoring app showed the inverter module as offline, even though the battery was still operating. I checked the cables, restarted the communications gateway, and waited about ten minutes. The connection returned, and the solar battery never stopped supplying the house. Since then, I have learned that an app warning does not always mean a hardware failure.

The system has not made me completely energy independent, and winter will probably test it harder. Still, watching the battery discharge instead of the utility meter climb during peak hours feels genuinely satisfying. For me, the practical win is quieter bills, not technical bragging rights.
