Solution Solar Inverter
Running my solar battery after work has become one of those small household routines I never expected to care about. I check the app while making dinner, and if the panels have charged the battery well, I know the house is already covered for most of the evening.
I installed a growatt 6000 inverter with a 10 kWh LiFePO4 battery last summer. My main goal was reducing peak-hour electricity use, not going completely off-grid. Before the installation, the dishwasher, refrigerator, lights, and air conditioner pushed our evening bill noticeably higher. Now the solar battery usually takes over around 5 p.m., when utility rates start rising. On sunny days, it carries the house until bedtime and sometimes still has 30–40% remaining in the morning.
The savings are not dramatic every single month, but they are consistent. Our highest-rate usage has dropped by roughly half, and our monthly bill is generally $45–$70 lower than it was during the same season last year. I also like having backup power during short outages. The transfer is quick enough that our internet router and refrigerator keep running without me doing anything.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging at the schedule I had set. The app showed plenty of charge, but the inverter kept pulling a little power from the grid. I eventually found that the time-of-use schedule had reset to its default settings. Re-entering the peak and off-peak hours fixed it, although I wish the app had made that change more obvious.
So far, the practical benefit is simple: I use more of my own solar energy, avoid expensive evening electricity, and worry less about brief outages. I still watch the battery status, especially during several cloudy days, but the system has fit into normal home life better than I expected.
