Replacing my old grid-tied setup with a growatt 10kw solar inverter 48V Battery system was less dramatic than I expected. The installer finished the wiring in one day, but I spent the next evening watching the battery monitor and learning how electricity actually moved through our house. During daylight, the solar panels run the refrigerator, washing machine, and heat pump directly. Excess power charges the lithium battery instead of disappearing to the grid for a small credit.
At first, I worried a 10kW inverter would be oversized for us. In practice, it gives plenty of headroom when the kettle, microwave, and well pump overlap. I set the battery to hold charge during the afternoon, then discharge after our utility company’s peak period begins. That simple schedule has made the biggest difference to our bill. Before storage, our summer bills averaged about $180. Last month, despite similar weather, the bill was $71. The battery supplied roughly 11 to 14 kWh most evenings, depending on cooking and air-conditioning use.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment during the first week. The battery stopped discharging at 9 p.m., even though the app showed plenty of stored energy. I eventually found that the inverter had switched into a backup reserve setting after a brief grid flicker. I lowered the reserve from 30% to 20%, and normal discharge resumed. I appreciated that the battery management system kept a safety margin instead of draining completely.
After three months, the best part is the quieter feeling around peak pricing. I no longer think twice about running the dishwasher after dinner, because stored solar energy handles much of it. I’m still checking daily production and battery state of charge, but the routine takes less than a minute. For my household, this solar battery setup is not about total energy independence; it is about using more of my own power and buying less electricity when it costs the most.
