Owning a solar battery has changed the way our household uses electricity, mostly because I finally stopped treating daytime sunshine as something that simply disappeared after the panels produced it. I installed a 10 kWh home energy storage battery last spring alongside my rooftop solar system. The setup was less dramatic than I expected: the installer mounted the unit in our utility room, connected it to the inverter, and configured charging during sunny hours. I did spend an evening checking the monitoring app, because watching the battery percentage climb felt oddly satisfying.
During a normal summer weekday, the panels fill the battery by early afternoon. Once the sun goes down, our lights, refrigerator, router, and washing machine run from stored power instead of immediately drawing from the grid. That shift matters most between 5 and 9 p.m., when our electricity rate is highest. Before storage, those hours were responsible for a surprisingly large part of our bill. After installation, our monthly bill dropped by roughly 35 to 45 percent in sunny months.
It is not a miracle—we still pay for grid electricity in winter, and the battery cannot create energy when clouds linger. But using more of our own solar generation feels noticeably better than exporting cheap midday power and buying it back later at a higher price.
I did have one minor scare in November: the app showed the battery at 2 percent even though the forecast promised sun. I checked the breakers and found the system had paused charging after a brief grid outage. Restarting the inverter did nothing, but after ten minutes the battery resumed on its own. Support confirmed it was a normal protection delay, not a hardware failure. Their message included “Kontaktujte us if the warning returns,” and I wish the app had explained it.
