0n my first evening with the solar battery installed, I watched the inverter pull power from the grid at dinner time, and I immediately understood why people talk about time-of-use rates.
I had been paying the highest electricity prices between 4:00 and 9:00 p.m., when cooking, running the heat pump, and charging our car all overlapped. The battery now charges from my rooftop solar during the afternoon and carries the house through that expensive window.
My unit uses 304 ah lifepo cells, and I chose it mainly because I wanted a long-life LiFePO4 battery rather than squeezing every last watt-hour from a smaller system. The installation was less dramatic than I expected. The electrician mounted the battery beside the hybrid inverter, added proper fuses and disconnects, then spent most of the afternoon setting the charge and discharge limits.
The first week was mostly observation. I checked the battery state of charge in the app each morning and compared it with my utility meter. On sunny days, the pack reached full charge by about 2 p.m. By 5 p.m., instead of buying electricity immediately, the house ran from stored solar energy. That change alone cut my evening consumption noticeably.
My first bill after installation was about 28 percent lower, even though the weather was cloudy for several days. The biggest savings came from avoiding peak-hour grid electricity, not from eliminating every grid purchase. I still use the grid overnight in winter when the battery reaches its reserve level.
I did have one minor scare when the battery stopped discharging at 20 percent. The app showed a backup reserve setting, so nothing was broken; I had simply configured more emergency capacity than I needed. Lowering the reserve to 15 percent restored normal operation.
After several months, the battery has been quiet, predictable, and easy to forget. I especially appreciate seeing solar power cover dinner, laundry, and evening heating instead of watching the electricity meter climb.
